I admit it.
It normally takes a lot for a movie or TV show to make me cry, but I've seen this video twice now, and it makes me cry every time.
Hasselhoff is right: the little guy won my heart.

It's the end of another season of "Dancing with the B-List Celebrities   Stars".

Of course Kristi won. Come on, you knew she would from the beginning, didncha?

I admit, I had hoped that Steve "Gute" Guttenberg would win. He is One Class Act. Always positive, always polite, always gracious. I don't know what he's taking, but I want some.
Then, when it came down to the Final Four, I had hoped Christian de la Fuente would win. Hey, he proved he was worthy when he kept going in spite of the risk of further damaging his arm. I support that kind of dedication and courage.

But The Yamaguchi Machine won. The one person I felt had an unfair advantage, because, lets face it: ice skating is dancing on ice, isn't it?
Sigh.
I need to stop rooting for the underdog.

Truth be told, the actual finale was... boring.
I mean, does anyone out there think Usher is that talented?? (Anyone...? Anyone....?) Maybe I'm missing something?

But there was one pleasant surprise in the show (and no, I don't mean the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, ya goofball!)

The person that I felt showed the least amount of grace and class all season, the person that I wanted off the show from the start, turned out to say something very classy, very insightful, and very true.
Adam Carolla, who was one of the most negative "stars" on the show, when interviewed by Tom Bergeron, said:

"I want to say something quickly about 'Dancing With The Stars':
This is why the terrorists hate us
And it's not the glitter, and it's not the pomp and circumstance.
We've got black and white, we've got Hispanic and Asian, we've got gay, straight, and Guttenberg...
All working together for one common goal: to get the mirrored ball.
And the mirrored ball doesn't care what color you are! It doesn't care how rich your parents are! And it doesn't care what god you pray to.
It's an even wooden floor, and may the best man -- or woman --win.
And I say 'God bless "Dancing With The Stars", and God bless the USA!"

Amen and amen, brother.

Pretty classy, considering the source.

May. 14th, 2008 @ 06:02 pm Happy Bearthday, Buddy!
Today is Bear's birthday! Yaaay!

OK, to be honest, I don't know his exact birthday. But it was one year ago today that I went to the Animal Shelter, "just to look" (ha!), and fell in love with a 3-year-old lab-chow mix.
Today was also Gypsy's birthday. She was born on May 14th 1991, and I got her when she was 10 weeks old. She died on May 27, 2006. She gave me 15 years of love and laughter and fur. And that's why I gave myself permission to go look for a dog on her birthday, to honor her memory, so that it would always be a happy day for me.

Bear is a lot like Gypsy: a lab mix, stock and stupid, but so sweet -- most of the time (when he's not barking at squirrels/kitties/joggers/bicyclists and not trying to go through the front window to get at them.) He supplies me with unconditional love, and I supply him with love, and kibbles. What more could you ask?

I highly recommend shelter animals. They have an attitude of gratitude that never goes away. They have seen the worst of life, and they know you rescued them from that terrible place. Even if you can't adopt an animal, for whatever reason, why not take a few minutes and get together some of those old blankets and towels that you don't use anymore, and take them over to your local Animal Shelter? Give them some money, some time, some newspapers (they use a lot of them!)... whatever you can spare. You won't regret it. Take it from me... and Bear.

Speaking of which, it's time for the doggie ice cream. (Spoiled? Noooo..... pampered.)

Current Mood: sad
I wanted to cry at work today. I wanted to just go somewhere in private and have a short, quiet sob. But there's no place like that at my office. The ladies rooms have three stalls. Offices that aren't in use are locked. Sitting in the car is too open. And to get to any of those places, you have to walk by other people who would see you're crying and ask "ARE YOU CRYING?" Shitheads.

Why the cry? Because today I gave my first-ever Power Point presentation, to the new-hire class, explaining how to work a report that I'll be sending them. Afterwards, I felt pretty good about how I did, and my boss raved about how great I was. That was nice. But... I just wanted to call Mom and tell her about it and hear her say how proud of me she was.

Instant waterworks.  You can't un-think a thought like that once it starts. My sister and I call these "Mom Moments". We try to call each other when we're having them, but, again, there was no private place to call Sis and wail, "I MISS MOM!"

You'd think after two years it would get easier. But with all the Mother's Day ads on TV and radio this week, it's never far from my mind this time of year.

I miss her so much.

Enjoy your moms while you can, y'all. Cuz one day, it will be too late.

J and I keep getting sick.  I get her infection and almost get over it, then J gets what I injection, and so on and so on.  Both of us are just wiped out as soon as we get up for the day.  The boys don't seem to notice we are both feeling crappy.  They just want to play and bark and bark.

I did finally get to take him to the dog bark yesterday.  There was only 2 dogs there but he ran and played.  He was a bit aggressive though.  There was a mix St. Benard there he would run with and then bark and try to bit his neck while they ran.  I got worried.  We were there only about 20 minutes.  The St. Benard accidentally bit me and now I have a very tender and purple bruise on my knee but no skin was broken.

For those reading please pray for us, that we get well quickly.  Maybe me sleeping in the living room until we are both well is the best idea.  We don't know.

Enjoy May and get ready for summer

Okay another weekend has passed.  I caught the same crap infection that J had.  I feel like I am a pharmacy right now with all the drugs I am taking.

I managed to play softball on Saturday afternoon.  I did not run but I was able to hit 3 for 3.  I have finally have found the correct bat and combination for a great hitter.  I am really excited.

The boys are doing well.  Bear should be able to return to the dog bark this coming weekend.

Well, I am going to go lay down again and take it easy.  Just wanted to let y'all know what was happening.

A word or two from A~

Life has been busy as normal.  Recently J has been sick and now I am afraid I may have caught the same bug.  She has been mostly resting and taking it easy while I have been cleaning the house.  It is spring time and I wanted to get some spring cleaning done.  So far so good, but I am afraid this bug is going to slow me down.

A few weeks ago Bear decided he wanted the kitty outside the living room window and jumped right through the window.  It was after 8pm and we had to take him to the emergency vetpawnarian.  He cut his front leg pretty good.  So good, he needed stitches and it took a minor surgery to do this.  Needless to say, J and I did not get much sleep that night because we had to pick him up at almost 4am after the surgery.  He got his stitches out last Thursday and we all have been eagerly awaiting for his laceration to heal up so he can return to pimping at the dog bark.

Apple has been doing well.  We got some taller stairs so he could get in the bed with the rest of the pack on his own.  He has really gotten good at it but hesitates when he first starts.  It is like he needs a running start (allbeit in his head) or is getting up is confiendence.  He continues to play with Bear as much as he wants to.  He can be soooo cute and then again so rude to J or Bear at any given time.

I am continuing the play softball on Wednesday nights.  I think I have finally figured out why I was not hitting the ball very well.  Over the last several weeks I have been able to get on base more than 3/4 of the time and I am hitting the ball farther and harder.  Soon I hope to be hitting doubles.  Now I just need to work on my running (I am not the fastest cow in the pasture)  :)  My team, the Bobbleheads, have managed to win the last couple of games to improve our record to 3-4.  A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to play a pick up game.  It was really exciting to play with the #1 team in our league.  Not by surprise they won that game but it was tight all the way to the last minutes.  Just what a true game should be.  I am still playing 1st base most of the time but will also play catcher.  I really like both positions but I must say 1st is my favorite.  This past Saturday I played 2 pick up games in the chruch league.  We won both games.  I played catcher and made some really good plays.  I also managed to hit and get on base all but one time (sometimes I get too excited when I am up to bat and forget everything I learned and just strike out).

Well that is about all for now.  We will keep you posted.........

J's turn:

If you haven't been watching "Eli Stone", you've missed one of the best shows on TV (and believe me, I'm picky!)

Jonny Lee Miller (a British actor who does a great job of converting to a purely American accent on the show) is perfect as the lawyer-turned-semi-prophet Eli Stone. I won't go into the deets -- you can catch up on abc.com -- but it is a very clever, intelligent, creative, fun, thought-provoking, current, imaginitive show.

But what gets to me every week is the fact that the older gray-suited lawyer in this clip -- Victor Garber -- is the same Afro-wearing Jesus in this clip from one of my favorite movies -- Godspell. (Keep watching the clip -- the last part of the song "All for the Best" was filled at the then-under-construction World Trade Center.)  It's the same guy -- same face, same twinkle in the eyes, just a bit older now (aren't we all?).

If you want to watch something that actually makes you think and laugh at the same time, tune in to Eli Stone on Thursday nights on ABC.

That's all I got.

Well it has been a couple of weeks since the last post.  Just wanted to keep y'all updated as to what has been going on.  First off......

BER UPDATE:

Ber has passed 3 weeks worth of check ups with flying colors and only has his last blood test next Friday.  We are planning on a celebration for him by taking him to the Dog Bark Park and tator tots.  He can't wait to see some of his friends and bitches again (either can his mommy and me)!

J UPDATE:

J celebrated her birthday this week and I was able to make it special for her.  We went to Kemah on Sunday (got a little sun, she more then me), got to pet sting rays, watched the boats going in and out, and watched the kids play in the fountain in the center of the Kemah boardwalk.  It was really fun, except for the traffic on the way out.

Tonight she invited me to attend a company awards ceremony at the Marriott.  I was actually dressed up in a dress!!!!!  I had a nice time except for a little wardrobe malfunction but I was able to recover.

That is all folks.......

Have a great weekend!!!

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day together (or as J liked to put it VD, although I laugh because it sounds like a disease).  J took me out to a wonderful, romantic dinner to IHOP (don't worry, it is my favorite place to eat and there was NO WAITING)!  Then we came back home and......well it was Valentine's Day, what do you think?

We did get a chance to talk about our love for each other and I couldn't help but thank God for the love we have for each other, especially after what both of us have been through in our lives.   We give each other tokens of our love such as little looks or loving words or even just holding each other everyday and even sometimes several times a day.  I told her I hope we have many VD's  together.  She found the perfect card that said everything she always says to me.

Okay, enough sappy talk!

BEAR UPDATE

His first week after his treatment he is doing great.  We have been working hard to keep him calm, although he does not like it.  He will be going back to the vet this evening for his weekly check up and we will let you know how it goes.  Thanks for your prayers!!!!

My pupper, Bear, has tested positive for heartworms. :-(

It was quite a surprise because I'd had him tested when I adopted him in May, and it was negative. But apparently there is a four-month window (or perhaps, more accurately, "eclipse") where the test can't "see" the worms. (My understanding of what our vet said is that the test finds "immature" worms that are zero to two months of age, and "mature" worms that are 6 months of age and older, but it doesn't find the worms that are from 2 to 6 months of age. That's why they say to have your dog re-tested every six months.)
Anyway, we took him in Thursday morning, and he spent 3 days at the vet, getting chest xrays (looked fine) and blood tests (no problems),  so everything was A-OK to go on with the injections. He received two injections at the vet's office, and we were able to take him home last night. The most important part of the process is keeping him calm and quiet (hard to type that without laughing maniacally: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA HE'S THREE YEARS OLD AND THINKS KITTIES AND SQUIRRELS ARE DESIGNED FOR DOGGIE ENTERTAINMENT!).  That part is crucial because if he exerts himself a lot, the worms that are in his lungs will spread, and his antibodies will take over trying to fight them, and he will get very very sick. So we moved a large crate into our bedroom and are keeping him dosed with Bendryl so he will hopefully sleep for two weeks. (Poor Apple.... he missed his buddy and keeps wanting to playplayplay whenever we let Bear out on a leash for a potty break.)
We have to take Bear back to the vet every Friday for the next four weeks so he can get re-tested. On the third Friday he gets another injection, and the fourth friday is his final test to see if the worms are gone.  Total expenditure for the month of treatment: a minimum of $475. That's not included what A will pay getting Apple tested, and A's ex-housemate will need to get her two dogs tested. In other words, heartworms are a very profitable business, at least for some. The only "good" news is that I don't have to get the cats tested. It's not that they can't get heartworm from a dog (it just takes one mosquito), but (a) the diagnosis is very iffy in cats, and (b) there's not a way to treat them for it: if they have it, they will probably die. So I just keep giving them the medicine and hope for the best. (Not that they really need their lungs to be in shape: they only use them to complain during the one hour a day they aren't sleeping.)
So... that being said, the only thing to do now is YELL AT YOU TO "GET YOUR DOG TESTED AND KEEP HIM ON MEDICATION", OK?  Cuz, trust me, you don't want to go through this.
Please keep him, and us, in your prayers?
Thanks,
J.

Current Location: the office
Current Mood: mischievous
Current Music: Ber and Appaw snoring

As everyone knows the best parts of the Super Bowl are the commercials.  Although they were not as good as we have seen in previous years, A&J would like to award the 1st annual "A&J Super Bowl Commercial Awards"

First the awards according to A:

Most boring:   All Hyundai commercials

Cutest:   Coke commercial with Stewie, Underdog, and Charlie Brown

Most inspirational:   NFL commercial about player Pitts of the Texans

Doggiest:   Gatorade commercial with the dog drinking out of the water bowl

Most Tacky:  Pepsi commercial with the "Night at the Roxy" music and people bobbing their heads like the SNL skit.

Worst:   Bud Light commercial with the caveman and the invention of the wheel.

Awards according to J:

Most tacky:   Amp commercial with the man attached to the jumper cables

Worst:  Vitamin Water with Shaq racing as a jockey

The finalist in the best category are:
5.  Coke commercial with the balloons of Stewie, Underdog, and Charlie Brown
4.  Budweiser commercial with the Clydesdale being trained by the dalmatian
3.  FedEx commercial with the pigeons as the delivery service for a company
2.  Doritos commercial with the giant mouse beating the crap out of the guy
and the winner is.........

The Best Super Bowl commercial for 2008, according to A&J:

Life Water commercial with the lizards dancing to Thriller!!!

Beside the commercials, the 4th quarter was the most exciting.  J decided we would have a Super Bowl Pool.  I was winning until the last touch down by New York and now I have to...... well, I can't tell you what I get to do........

Hope y'all enjoyed the commercials, okay the game too, as much as we did.

Congrats Giants, even though I didn't think you had a chance in hell!!!

Feb. 3rd, 2008 @ 07:11 am Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Go To Galveston
Current Mood: sad

Warning: graphic details ahead. I'm serious.

For the third time in less than a year, a baby has been found brutalized in the Galveston area.

The first time was in May 2007. A 19-year-old man named Joshua Mauldin was left alone with his 2-month old daughter when his wife and mother went to get some takeout food. Apparently the baby became upset about something and started to cry. After trying to cram the baby into the hotel room safe, and then in the refrigerator, he put the baby in the microwave and turned it on. This is a man who wanted to enter the ministry. (He has since pleaded insanity. The trial starts in March.) The baby, miraculously, survived. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the next case.
In October 2007, the bruised and broken decomposed body of a baby girl was found in a box on an island near Galveston. She was dubbed "Baby Grace". Thanks to a sketch artist and police efforts, she was identified as Riley Ann Sawyers. Her 19-year-old mother and 24-year-old step-father confessed to torturing her (I won't go into the details; you can read them here, if you have the stomach for it).  The DA has until April 17th to decide if he wants to go for the death penalty. (As I said at the time of the Polly Klaas murder, if you mess with a kid, the death penalty should be automatic.) But like Polly Klaas, a community took Riley Ann into their hearts, and her story has affected people around the world.

Now comes that a baby's body was found on the side of a Galveston road. After a nationwide manhunt, the father has surrendered to police, and confessed to what he did to his 3-month old son. I thought I'd seen just about everything in my 40-plus years, but when I read what happened to this baby, I ran and hid in A's arms. I just kept repeating over and over again, How can someone do that to a little baby? How can this happen? I don't understand this world anymore. I don't want to understand it, because if I understood that kind of thinking, I'd have to be as sick as the world apparently is.

All I can do is hope that at some point the madness will stop.

Until then.... Mamas, keep your babies safe.

3 sprinkles soy sauce

1. Combine all ingredients until well blended
2. Spoon mixture into an 8-inch pie plate or casserole
